Because Steelway manufactures our own products we are able to use the best materials for each job.  When you think of foundations you think concrete. House foundations are not made of plastics or steel because it’s a hard environment. There are water pressures, soil acidity, lateral loads and other forces at work on material that is buried in the dirt around your home.  For these reasons we believe (and builders for decades have believed) that concrete is the best material to use for your egress. And, again, we do what’s right – we use 5,000 psi, rebar reinforced concrete that exceeds the ASTM specification for strength.  Whether you are choosing a set of stairs with a steel door at the top, a set of stairs open to daylight, or our rectangular or arched shaped window wells we use what will last carefree for longer than anything else we know of.

There are other egress products out there, especially window well egresses. But they are made of steel or plastics because the manufacturers need to be able to ship the product and the installers need to be able to handle the product without extra capital equipment like boom trucks. This forces them into using products that are not of the quality that a concrete product offers (one product even comes with a warning that electrolysis may occur shortening the life of the well!).  Steelway does not cut corners and will always offer you the product we believe to be the best but in the event you want a steel or plastic well we can certainly install them for you as well.

To cover your egress window we have designed a lid that meets all code requirements. The frame is made from galvanized steel and the lenses are made from UV resistant Lexan (the same material bullet proof glass is made from). One side of the cover is hinged, lockable and easily opened. Again, because we manufacture everything ourselves, we can design and implement the best possible solution for your egress.

Our Steelway Custom Cellar Door for a set of basement stairs is made from the heaviest gauge steel you can buy for a cellar doors (12 gauge). The frame is completely welded so there are no seems or parts to bolt together giving you the strongest most water tight door you can buy. We also offer an option to use a product called galvannealed which is also 12 gauge and is what the outside body panels of your car are made from. This upgrade means the door is virtually maintenance free. The door comes to you primed and ready for your final coat of paint – no more rusty doors!

When it comes to the actual installation nobody else can compare with our experience. For 48 years we have been installing basement egress systems in the area. We have seen the evolution of the egress systems and always adopted the best practices to make a good installation for each customer. Our equipment is dedicated to only installing egress window wells or basement stairs so you can be assured that we will get the job done professionally. Good examples of this are our excavators. We use landscape grade rubber tracked excavators to minimize damage to your yard. We also use trucks with larger ‘floater’ tires to minimize the marks left on the grass. Our saw makes a beautiful clean cut through your block or poured concrete wall with no dust in your home.  And while other companies may boast of installing a lot of egress units – be assured that nobody has installed more egress units than Steelway  Cellar Doors.

We believe we do the job right but we want you to be the ultimate judge. We don’t ask for final payment until you say that you are satisfied. We use the best products, have the best installation team and equipment but we’re not finished our work until you are completely satisfied.
